Jim Oehler

Candidate for Douglas County Clerk and Recorder

Life-Long Coloradoan

I’ve called Colorado home my entire life, including more than 20 years in Douglas County. Like most county residents, I care deeply about this community, its future, and making sure that local government works fairly and effectively for everyone.

I’m running for Douglas County Clerk and Recorder because I believe in something simple but essential: elections must be open, fair, and free from political influence. I’m committed to protecting the integrity of elections, even if it means standing up to elected officials who wish to harm the election process for political gain. The voice of every voter must be heard.

Real-World Experience

With a background in journalism and engineering, I offer an alternative to those that have advanced their careers within the confines of county government. I bring more than 30 years of real-world experience designing and supporting media and communication solutions that help people do their jobs more effectively. I’ve spent my career listening to people, understanding what they need, and delivering practical solutions that make every day processes easier and more efficient.

That experience shapes how I will approach public service: focus on what works, fix what doesn’t, and support and empower the teams that serve you.

The Plan

As Douglas County Clerk and Recorder, I will:

  • Protect secure, transparent, and professionally run elections

  • Keep politics out of the election process

  • Expand election education through voter outreach efforts

  • Support professional, accountable teams dedicated to serving the community

  • Evaluate and improve services so residents can access what they need quickly and easily

  • Ensure public records are accurate and accessible

Qualifications

At a time when public trust in elections is so important, a fresh perspective matters. I offer voters a different kind of leadership: one grounded in fairness, accountability, and a commitment to transparent service for Douglas County residents. The Clerk & Recorder office, the cornerstone of democracy at the local level, must be strong, trusted, and built for the future.

I studied engineering and journalism at Colorado State University, earning a degree in Technical Journalism. I continued my engineering studies at the University of Colorado and currently serve on the advisory board for the Strategic Artificial Intelligence program at the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs).
